Stress symptoms show up in many ways. And even though we may not realise stress can be the cause of many health issues. From the nagging headache, frequent insomnia or decreased productivity at work. Stress may actually be the culprit, but very often we shake it off and blame it as being an illness. Yes, and I could tell you a thing or two about the emotional side of stress in my life since losing my Shadow, my Dalmatian to Alabama rot. Maybe another time! It for sure showed up big time in my physical life.
The effects on your body
We class stress as a ‘normal’ part of life. Well, it is for most, if not all of us. In our daily life many things happen. Events we have no control over cause us to show stress symptoms. We experience those stressy feelings from our environment, our body and yes, most of the time our thoughts. How we react instead of act. Stress is the body’s reaction to any change. Any adjustment. Any response. And our body reacts to those changes with a response which can be physical, mental and/or emotional. We are designed to handle and also to react to it.
It’s up to you – positive or negative
Stress can be positive and keep us alert and leave us ready to avoid danger or dangerous situations. Stress can become negative when we face continuous challenges and we don’t have relief or relaxation between those challenges. Than we become overworked and naturally stress-related tension starts to build.
Stress that continues without paying attention to our body telling us it needs relief leads “distress”, which is a negative stress reaction. Distress and the stressing symptom can lead to various physical problems which include headaches, stomach ache, upset stomach, raised blood pressure, tight chest with chest pain, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, skin conditions, anxiety, trouble sleeping, interrupted sleep pattern, moodiness, depression and of course not to forget stress can worsen health issues which you are already experiencing.

Stress can be the cause for “self-harm”, turning to alcohol, tobacco or even drugs. We have many different reactions to try to relieve our stress. Unfortunately, this won’t work. Instead of relieving our stress and returning our body to a relaxed state, we keep the body in a stressed state and cause more problems.
